You know, when I was but a lad back in the olden days -- the late 1970s and early 1980s -- I remember an era when "to save" meant the opposite of "to spend". Today all it seems to mean is "buy on sale", and the most recent Commerce Department report on personal income and personal consumption expenditures bears this out.
